Johnnie Burgess earned his Bachelor of Science from Missouri State University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 1991 and to the South Carolina Bar in 2016. Johnnie remains a licensed attorney in both states.
Johnnie's career in criminal law spans over twelve years as a prosecuting attorney in Missouri, followed by about five years as a defense attorney. He has also worked for more than five years representing the states of Missouri and South Carolina in cases involving child abuse and neglect, collaborating with their social services departments. Additionally, he has over five years of private practice experience handling cases related to divorce, child custody, child support, child support enforcement, and other Family Law matters.
Johnnie is certified by the State of South Carolina to serve as a Family Court Mediator. He has handled hundreds of “bench-tried” cases in both criminal and family law, and has tried over three dozen Jury Trials.
If you’re navigating family court in South Carolina, mediation is not just encouraged—it’s required. And while it can feel daunting, many families find it to be a more humane and constructive path forward.
